Name: Jose Lopez-Abrams

Community Involvement: Key Biscayne Athletic Club Board Member; Key Biscayne Youth Soccer Commissioner; Volunteer Baseball Coach; Volunteer Tackle Football Coach; Key Biscayne Community Church School PTA; Key Biscayne Community School Volunteer

Best Giving Back Story: “I grew up in a small town and my father used to be the Postmaster. Most of the senior folks lived from a government pension. One memory I cherish happened the day before a major hurricane hit. The pension checks had just arrived and my father knew that if those people couldn’t get their checks, they wouldn’t be able to afford hurricane supplies. Although the post office had been ordered to close, I went in with my father to deliver the checks. I remember everyone was so happy to see us!”

Greatest Success: “My greatest success came while I was serving with the U.S. Marine Corps. After the invasion of Panama, we had to refocus our mission from combatants to humanitarian. To be able to help communities that were oppressed because of the dictatorship is something that really very few people get the opportunity to do.”

Future Goals: “I hope to continue my involvement with the Key Biscayne Athletic Club and the Key Biscayne Youth Athletic Advisory Board. I’d also like to continue to advocate for the expansion of intramural youth soccer in the Village. My main goal would probably be to see the girls’ soccer program (travel and intramural) expand dramatically in the next few years.”
