Forever Forward

Basketball, football, baseball, hockey, golf, tennis, paddle tennis, soccer, swimming and wake surfing are just some of the many sports that Jimmy Ly has participated in throughout the years. From the fitness facilities at The Ocean Club to the gym at the Key Biscayne Community Center and the courts at The Ritz-Carlton Key Biscayne, he breaks a sweat at every opportunity. “Being fit is a mindset,” he says. “If you say to yourself, ‘I have to workout today,’ you’re making it a chore; however, if you say ‘I get to workout today’ then your entire perspective shifts in the right direction!”

Winning Attitude

Rodrigo Antunes began Judo at 4 and Jiu-Jitsu at 8, training with Martial Arts legends and earning a Black Belt at 22 before opening his first school just two years later. Now 46, he still trains and teaches daily at Alliance Jiu-Jitsu in Key Biscayne and Coconut Grove. Fresh off winning the European Championship for the second time in Rome, the International Masters in Barcelona, an F2WIN Championship Belt and 4 medals at the Paris Open, the World Champion & U.S. Martial Arts Hall of Famer will continue to compete throughout the season, culminating in the World Masters in Las Vegas. “Even though I run 3 businesses, engage in community activities and compete in high-performance combat sports, it’s still a priority to spend lots of quality time with my family and dedicate at least an hour a day to my body.”

Against All Odds

Ana Isabel Hume didn’t play many sports growing up due to various health challenges that included scoliosis, hydrocephalus and an inoperable brain tumor. Thankfully, her medical issues resolved themselves as she got older without complications. Today, in addition to her professional roles with the Miami-Dade State Attorney’s Office, Miami’s Community News Network and Florida International University, she’s an avid athlete and competitive bodybuilder. She’s also an active member of the National Physique Committee (NPC) and volunteers for the Wounded Veterans Relief Fund and Amor En Accion. “Anything is possible no matter the challenge, disability or setback,” she says. “Never lose sight of the glory that awaits — don’t leave today for tomorrow!”
