Shockingly Good

Tesla Motors’ groundbreaking Model 3 made the electric car a viable option, combining technology with sensual styling. They are now back with the Model X, a crossover that adds a big jolt of functionality to the mix.

Tesla Motors does everything demonstrably differently than traditional car manufacturers — from naming conventions to power sources. The all-new Tesla Model X is no exception, being the world’s first 7-passenger vehicle equipped with gullwing doors. The crossover design makes it a great kid-hauling grocery-getter, but the ability to go from 0 to 60 in 2.9 seconds — faster than most supercars — will have Ferrari owners rethinking their mode of transport. You won’t need a long extension cord, either, as the 250-mile range between charges can get you around town all week. In addition to a remarkably efficient electric powerplant, the Model X features all-wheel drive for nimble handling even in the rain, and a cockpit that looks like NASA designed it. Our favorite feature? There are actually two: The ludicrous Speed Mode with Launch Control that makes it a breeze to embarrass Corvettes at stoplights; and the uber-cool gullwing rear doors. There’s no doubt Nikola Tesla would have loved this beast; Tesla.com.
