‘Tis Is It

Last year I went to grab a drink with an old pal I hadn’t seen since elementary school whom I’d connected with on Facebook.

We’d gone through 1st-5th Grade together and had lost touch when he moved away. He was at a professional crossroads, had never married and didn’t have any kids. He truly believed he had nothing to offer the world. So I gave him the best advice I could: I told him to stop dwelling and start changing. Not yesterday, not tomorrow, but RIGHT NOW. After our brief hour together that fateful day, I left saddened by the unlucky route the life of my friend had taken, but excited about the positive direction our conversation took. A few weeks ago, I got an email from him. He told me I changed his life. Since we’d last spoken, he had landed his dream job, invested in a new home and married his high school sweetheart with whom he was about to welcome a child. When we met up a few days later, he taught me something: Although it’s essential to focus on the present, the past can help you get on the right track and the future can serve as a great source of motivation, essentially resulting in the magic recipe that will inevitably yield true happiness. Lesson learned! JORGE ARAUZ, EDITOR-IN-CHIEF.

“If you spend too much time dwelling on yesterday and worrying about tomorrow, you won’t ever really get to enjoy today.”
