On the very top of Sweden’s picturesque Mount Förberget, more than 730 metres above sea level, rests a new idyllic ski getaway. Celebrating its first anniversary this year, it’s still a well-kept secret, even to the most savvy snow lovers.
Once they know what they’re missing, they’ll be there. But before that happens, check it out for yourself, while the snow is still pure. The gem of this small community is Copperhill Mountain Lodge, a Design Hotels resort boasting the exclusivity of a five-star hotel with the warmth of a mom-and-pop operation complemented by the thrilling design of master architect Peter Bohlin.
Known for his work on the iconic Apple stores, Bohlin has succeeded in making the hotel’s 112 earth-toned guestrooms feel lustrous and comfortable as well as invitingly private. Guests can take in 360-degree views of the Jämtland mountains through large bay windows, while overlooking Are’s renowned Alpine ski area, the largest in Scandinavia. All the action is right outside your doorstep, and ski-in/ski-out access makes exploring everything as simple as strapping on a pair of skis. Among its many lures, the comprehensive Ski Club offers lessons, mountain guides, ski rentals and heliskiing for shy novices and adventurous risk-takers alike.
For a warmer atmosphere amid a crackling fire, guests can head to the hotel’s Fireside Lounge & Bar, adjacent to gourmet restaurant Niesti, where you can go for a hearty meal to get your rosy cheeks warmed up. After that, head off to the on-site spa, featuring 9 treatment rooms, an indoor pool, two saunas, an outdoor Jacuzzi, a health club and a gym. There’s also childcare services, sundecks and terraces available. Activities such as heliskiing, snowmobiling, sledding, mountain biking, hiking and white-water rafting can be arranged here as well.
If you can’t leave work at home, the lodge has six conference rooms available for meetings, conferences and private events. The executive spaces have a capacity for up to 600 people, each one offering between 10-50 seats. All necessary conference equipment is available at the hotel, so don’t worry about lugging hefty equipment around during your trip.
Having just come off a short hiatus from Apr.26-Dec. 1, the hotel and its staff are back and better than ever, ready to make all your winter wonderland wishes come true. Rates during a typical stay run anywhere from $275 to $1,250. With 112 suites and rooms in 7 categories to choose from, there’s something for every family at any budget. Copperhill Mountain Lodge is located on the top of Mount Förberget in Are Björnen, Sweden, within 10 minutes driving distance to the train station, 80 kilometers to Are-Östersund Airport and 130 kilometers to Værnes International Airport in Trondheim, Norway.
