Miami-based artist Natalia Garcia-Lee uses her craft to decode distinctive zones of human behavior. Her latest series of works, Monkey Mind, is a group of paintings that aim to work through the thoughts provoked when our species begin to question the influences of nature versus nurture when it comes to our behavioral activity. They are her painted interpretation of the restless Buddhist concept that inevitably fuels humankind, even in the most “civilized” realms of society. The chemical processes that drive the “why” and “how” of our built societies are worked through with this suite of oil-on-canvas renderings. Ranging in concept, she explores the mind from a multiplicity of angels, deconstructing contrived concrete concepts through abstraction. The series-based format is iconic of her practice and allows her to reiterate and further question the subjective workings of the mind that not only drive, but analogously react to our world; LNSGallery.com.
