Japanese carmakers are run by beancounters who have zero sense of adventure and get all woozy over cars that look like a lima bean. However, once in a while the gearheads raid the parts bin to build a fun car. Back in the ‘80s, the Supra was a sporty coupe combining stellar reliability with performance. The beancounters saw fun taking place and promptly discontinued it. Happily, the gearheads are back and so is the 2019 Toyota Supra developed with some help from BMW and Toyota’s Gazoo racing skunkworks. Prototypes are doing test laps on Germany’s Nurburgring Track, allowing glimpses of a car with lines reminiscent of an Alfa Romeo, which is to say poetry in motion.
