Back in the 1960s, minivans weren’t cool, but VW’s boxy Microbus powered by a tiny, rear-mounted, air-cooled engine was building a loyal following, especially after being featured on Bob Dylan and Beach Boys album covers. Production of the last VW Microbus, aka the Kombi, was in 2006, so the Flower Power generation will be overjoyed to know it’s back in the form of the VW ID Buzz. The exterior design of the ID Buzz somewhat resembles a loaf of bread, but the interior will be full of electronic goodies to keep the driver on track and the passengers entertained. With rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive options, the Buzz will be powered by a 201-hp electric motor fueled by batteries that provide an estimated range of 263 miles. It will be fairly swift, reaching 60 mph in about 5.5 seconds, versus a few hours, if ever, for the original. Funky fun is back with a vengeance; VW.com.
