Co-founders Maite Garrido Thornton & Isabel Custer are excited to curate new Florida-centered films, invite award-winning international aquatic stories, and offer a series of free workshops for aspiring Key Biscayne filmmakers. They’ve also announced a Call for Submissions for films related to island cultures, their diasporas, and the ocean. Awards include Best Feature (Islands & Oceans), Best Short (Islands & Oceans), Best Short Film (Spotlight on Youth), and Best Film (Spotlight on Key Biscayne). While the exact viewing locations for this year’s festival are yet to be announced (previous venues included Paradise Park and the Ritz-Carlton Key Biscayne’s Ponce de Leon Ballroom), the co-founders look forward to elevating the island’s audiovisual experience by showcasing films at the new Village Chamber Theater; Jan. 30-Feb. 1, 2025; KBFilmFestival.org.
