FGO’s commitment to storytelling is reflected in this season’s production of Carmen, opening in April under the direction of Maria Todaro. This is not the Carmen audiences think they know — she is not just a symbol of rebellion or desire, but a bold, complex woman fighting for her own agency. She is a character of depth, strength and substance, embodying the very spirit of FGO’s vision for the future. This season, the company is introducing two transformative programs: Voices of Wellness, which provides free opera experiences, workshops, and cultural programs for first responders, military, veterans and medical professionals; and The Opera Closet, allowing young singers and FGO Studio Artists to have access to clothing and styling that enhances their careers. The program will also host special events where local high schoolers can choose a gown or tuxedo for prom, and to wear while enjoying the opera with an FGO-donated ticket; FGO.org.
