Earth Time

Mount Everest is a symbol of the majesty of nature, making it the ideal inspiration for a watch that is powered by sunlight, crafted in part from plants. It may very well be the most eco-conscious timepiece ever made.

Few firms take the term “sustainability” as seriously as One Eleven. From the packaging in which the watches are sold to the casings housing the mechanical works, the timepieces are made from recycled materials and plant-based castor oil plastics. Unlike other watchmakers that claim solar power, but actually rely on a combination of solar panels and batteries, One Eleven watches are 100% solar-powered, taking their energy both from the sun as well as artificial light, thus making them practical for those of us who spend the majority of our time indoors, despite our Indiana Jones fantasies. The Everest Watch Collection is built around a 42mm bio-plastic casing made from castor oil, in which resides the solar-powered works protected by a hardened mineral crystal lens. The colorful eco straps are crafted from recycled water bottles and offered in an array of colors inspired by Tibetan prayer flags representing the elements of nature; 111Watches.com.
