Moncy Blanco Herrera’s father’s family moved to Key Biscayne after losing their famed Cerveceria Tropical and Cristal Beer empire to the Castro regime. Blanco Herrera was born on The Key, went to elementary school, played youth sports, got married, and is raising his family on the island. Every day, he drives over the bridge to Coral Way to Ramon, Rodriguez, Blanco-Herrera Law (RRBH Law), his award-winning law firm. “I have to have my office outside of the island because otherwise, there is a chance I would never leave paradise,” he quips. He began his personal injury practice because he wanted to help people whose lives have been impacted as a result of somebody else’s negligence, helping his clients pick up the pieces during some of the most difficult times of their lives. “Many of the cases I take on require more than legal expertise — they require a friend you can depend on,” he says. “What is the price of losing the ability to enjoy your hobbies because somebody injured you? What is the price of being in pain every day that limits your overall functioning? That’s what I fight for.”

The highly experienced team at his firm believe that when a person is injured because of someone else’s negligence or an insurance company isn’t paying out what the claimant deserves, they should not have to navigate the legal process alone. “We provide legal guidance and support for clients with cases in the areas of personal injury, insurance litigation and vehicle accidents,” he says. “Plus, we also offer our clients unparalleled personal attention. Unlike other firms who delegate firm responsibilities to paralegals and associates, we handle each case personally. We are accessible and keep in constant communication with all of our clients, offering each of them exceptional service and legal expertise.”
For example, in Florida, filing a personal injury claim for a slip-and-fall accident is a multi-step process. “We have helped many victims get the compensation they deserve after an accident,” he says. “In one case that stands out, we were able to secure $500,000 for a woman who had a slip and fall accident inside a retail store where she suffered a fractured ankle and wrist that required surgery.”

None of those successes compares to how proud he is of his family, especially his children. His wife, Sarah, is also originally from Key Biscayne, with her family tracing their roots on the island back to the 1960s. “We are both bona fide Key Rats,” they say. Ironically, they didn’t meet in Key Biscayne — they met at a bar in Manhattan 15 years ago! “We were stuck in a huge snowstorm with our mutual friends,” they say. “Somehow we had spent our entire lives in Key Biscayne and had never crossed paths!” A few years later, the pair was married at Plymouth Congregational Church and had their reception at the Key Biscayne Yacht Club. “We didn’t choose a first song to dance to until the morning of our wedding,” they say. “That whole first song thing is just not us! We settled on Toto’s Africa because the song is awesome and we both love it!”

In their free time, the family enjoys taking in sunrises and sunsets together at the Key Biscayne Beach Club and Key Biscayne Yacht Club, where they have been long-time members. In his spare time, Moncy also likes playing tennis and golfing around the island. When it comes to giving back, the family participates in numerous Key Biscayne charities and philanthropic initiatives. Moncy also sits on the Key Biscayne Code Enforcement Board.
By far, the couple says the greatest adventure of their life has been raising their children. It is an aspect of their lives that they are both very proud of and that brings them the most fulfillment and joy. “The truth is that every part of this island, each and every aspect of this tight-knit community, has shaped who we are as people and we can only hope that it can provide our children the same form of pride, confidence, and refuge that it has given us,” they say. “The way we describe Key Biscayne to others is that it’s like living in a small seaside town that exists quietly and centrally from a global city. Where else in America can you find that?!”; RRBHLaw.com.
