Great Rhythm

If your looking to get in the right beat, then march on over to the TransAtlantic Festival to experience soundbites from just about every corner of the world for two days of dancing, swaying, listening and singing.

For nearly a decade, April has seen Miami’s North Beach Bandshell transformed into a spectacularly hot venue for fabulous world music. The Heineken TransAtlantic Festival features artists from Europe, Africa, Brazil, Argentina, The Caribbean and the U.S. East Coast, beautifully melding traditional styles with contemporary, electric beats. This year’s festival will take place Apr. 13-14, and includes some exciting names. Afrobeat legend Seun Kuti will bring on the funk with his band Egypt 80, while UK-born, Colombia-based Quantic uses killer fusion beats to back up cumbia singer Nidia Gongora. Making his Florida debut, Pedrito Martinez’s Afro-Cuban quartet offers up a whirlwind blend of Cuban guanguancó and classic rumba, and the bata rhythms of Santeria. The list is topped out with Miami-based trio Gold Dust Lounge, combining sci-fi jazz with spaghetti western groove, and Mr. Pauer, a Venezuelan pioneer of Latin electronica; TransAtlanticFestival.com.
