Natural Encounters

Key Biscayne’s Nature Center is off the radar for many island residents, and wrongly so. This stunning spot is one of the island’s coolest attractions. Here are our top reasons to check it out today.

Breath-Taker
We all know Key Biscayne is a gorgeous place to live, but how much of its true natural beauty have you seen? The Nature Center is the gateway to 165 acres of breathtaking hardwood coastal hammock. Walking through its secluded pathways, you would never guess you were only 6.5 miles from Downtown Miami. You’ll be amazed at how relaxing it is to immerse yourself in the sounds and smells of this rare and beautiful location.

Brain Expander
Think you know everything about the island? The Nature Center will blow your mind. Its exhibit room is home to 5 aquariums, all teeming with native species you might spot in the shallows of the island’s beaches. Pay a visit to the resident spiny puffer fish, check out the nurse sharks, or get in some quality time with the center’s friendly seahorses. If your curiosity is aroused, their knowledgeable naturalists will happily give you the inside scoop.

Meeting Place
Think of the Nature Center as Key Biscayne’s own outdoor “community center.” It’s a perfect place to meet friends or get some exercise by walking, swimming, paddleboarding or kayaking. Watch a film or just sit back and meditate in the soothing atmosphere of the butterfly garden. The park is also a wonderful spot for a picnic with family and friends. Eat up, then explore the beaches for sea beans, sea fans and shells.

Wallet Friendly
You’ll also find the Nature Center super friendly on the wallet. There’s no entrance fee, and the small parking fee is waived if you sign up for membership. There are nominal costs for guided nature expeditions, but you’ll find they are well-worth the investment. Their slate of programs include hammock walks, seagrass adventures, tide pooling, comprehensive tours and lectures. Just call 305.361.6767 or visit BiscayneNatureCenter.org.
