Stand Up!

Stripped to the bare essentials, Yamaha’s new SuperJet PWC is the aquatic version of a Ducati Monster superbike — a masterwork perfect for catching a wave or riding the tides.

Personal Watercraft (PWC) are the motorcycles of the sea, ideal for a fast blast across the bay or a leisurely cruise out to Eliott Key with grandma on the back. While most are designed to be ridden while seated, the Yamaha Superjet is designed to only carry one brave soul who is either kneeling (praying?) or standing up, riding the SuperJet like a renegade torpedo. The SuperJet is a slightly reigned-in racing PWC, and as such is an ideal choice for adrenaline junkies. The 4-stroke, 3-cylinder engine cranks out 100-hp for a top speed of 53-mph. It features an L-Mode setting that limits the engine’s performance to 85% to allow new riders to get used to the dynamics of a standup PWC. Once they have mastered the physics, switch to “Holy crap, hold on!” mode. Those seeking a fun, fast day on the water will be thrilled silly by this new toy. In some cases, you can buy direct from Yamaha and have it delivered to a nearby dealership; YamahaWaveRunners.com.
