I remember the first time I picked up a tennis racquet. It was somewhere between elementary school and college…it’s all a blur at this point. Whenever it was, it was memorable. I didn’t know the rules. I didn’t know the lingo. I didn’t know how to serve. But I could sure hit that ball! The memories of that day flood back whenever the Sony Ericsson Open rolls into town. It’s incredible to see how many tennis enthusiasts and their families make it out to our quaint island paradise to witness one of the most watch athletic tournaments in the world. It’s a wonder we can make room for them all! This year, we decided to have a little fun and feature Novak Djokovic on our cover. He’s ranked third in the world coming into the tournament and has high hopes of repeating his 2006 win. He is one of the few competitors this year that is a champ at home as well as on the courts. But even if he doesn’t leave the Key victorious, he’s sure to cause a hilarious stir, as this “Clown of the Courts” has dozens of opponent impersonations under his sleeve and more jokes than a comic. But at his core, the funny man is a fierce competitor who laughs at the idea of defeat. It should be interesting to see how this year’s tournament plays out. My money’s on Djokovic. Even if he loses, I’m confident he’ll turn my frown upside-down. Plus, there’s always next year. Jorge Arauz | Editor-in-chief.
