Let’s step back in time to February 2020. It was macular degeneration month in the U.S. and both Dr. Timothy Murray, Founding Director of Murray Ocular Oncology & Retina (MOOR) and current President of the American Society of Retina Specialists (ASRS), and Mr. Alan Goldberg were featured in the first ASRS national satellite media tour. Less than a month later, Covid 19 established its foothold in Miami, and nationally, with the first medical impacts being felt. Dr. Murray and the ASRS led a national policy statement focused on best care practices for retina patients. Even with Governor DeSantis’ Shelter-At-Home Order, medically necessary emergent and urgent procedures were still performed. Using CDC and ASRS guidelines, Murray Ocular Oncology & Retina stayed opened, maintained its full staff, and saw patients clinically to deliver intravitreal injections and to manage complex retina surgical procedures. As an easing of social restrictions emerges, MOOR will extend its appointment scheduling to bring in patients who had deferred appointments, as well as seeing previously scheduled patients.
