I spent 1st Grade through Middle School trying to win one of those awards! I didn’t even get a notable mention! She jokes that even though she is a triple ‘Cane and one of Miami’s top Real Estate, Development, Land Use & Zoning attorneys, that award-winning painting is her greatest achievement. Wow! A few weeks later, I stumbled upon my own masterpiece: A finger-painted rainbow with a bright sun shining down on a green field with a big red flower growing right in the middle. Kindergarten, those were the days! It hadn’t been stored properly and there were coffee stains and rips all over. I took it, cut it up into a dozen pieces and découpaged it back together on canvas. I hung it right next to hers on the wall and told her “This is MY greatest achievement!” She let out a chuckle, rolled her eyes and said “Nice try — You get an A for effort!” To this day, that’s the best compliment I’ve ever gotten on my artwork.
