Volkswagen Auto Group owns many of the world’s finest carmakers: Audi, Bentley, Lamborghini and Porsche, as well as Ducati motorcycles. But their crown jewel is Bugatti, whose ultimate model used to be the 1,001-hp Veyron. But now there’s a new Bugatti in town: The Bugatti Chiron. Boasting 1,500 hp roaring out of a twin-turbocharged W16 engine, the Chiron can take you from 0 to 249 mph and back to 0 in 42 seconds. Rumor has it this was first accomplished by a valet in the parking lot at Monty’s. Going that fast requires supernaturally good brakes, which is why the Chiron is equipped with carbon ceramic brakes that actually slow the rate at which the Earth rotates when fully applied. At its top speed of 261 mph, you’ll need to stop for fuel every 9 minutes, so allow for extra time when you drop the kids off at school; Bugatti.com.
