I understand that you are all too busy to call your mother, but I’m busy, too. I’m your Mother, I know everything that you’re up to, even when you don’t think I do. Sometimes I sit back and I’m so proud of you, like when you put out the recyclables every week, or when you try your best to buy merchandise with the least amount of packaging.
However, there are other times when I’m so sad by your decisions. Like when you decided to take an Uber to the American Airlines Arena from your Brickell office instead of taking the Metromover. Or like that time that you couldn’t find the garbage can at the beach and you buried the plastic cup you were using.
I’m getting old, and I’m getting tired. I need your help. I need you to understand that there’s only so much that I can do. I need you to think hard about how long you shower for, that I need you to plant some extra trees and just use a reusable water bottle instead of buying water in bulk at Costco.
I’ve worked really hard all my life to bring you beauty, to give you places to be inspired in, to allow you to roam throughout the globe and feel fortunate to call this place home. So please, you’re an adult now… do your part for me.
Not to sound cliché (but I am your mother), you have to rethink, reuse and recycle as much as possible. Carpool or use mass transit when you can, eat locally so that energy isn’t spent on transporting costly ingredients from other parts of the world.
In the end, I just ask that you be smart, responsible and good to me. I will, in turn, continue to be good to you.
Love you tons,
Mother Earth
