It was Apr. 24, 1924 when key members of the community came together to form an organization with a simple, if substantial, tenet: to build community by helping people care for one another. Unknown to these philanthropic forebears, that day saw the birth of an association almost unparalleled in its devotion to all things giving. The United Way Of Miami-Dade has, through the efforts and direction of its volunteer board members, invested heavily in over 120 local non-profits focused on the key areas of education, financial stability and health, and incepted a number of notable signature programs such as the oh-so-necessary United Way Center For Financial Stability. Last year alone saw them organize 80 community service projects, deliver emergency food supplies to 50,000 people and launch Mission United, an initiative devoted to helping veterans find meaningful employment. With nearly a century of charitable causes under their belt, the top thing on our minds is what they will have in store for the next 100 years; UnitedWayMiami.org.
